Adopt an emerging writer to mentor initiative

This is the activity incorporated into the Literary Outreach Incubation Programme to lobby and garner local talent that is being under-harnessed, to add value in the space of literature.

The Programme engages un-employed graduates as well as retired professionals who would be encouraged to volunteer to mentor young emerging writers. These writers will be mentored in a space of book authoring, collaborative writing, publishing, launching as well as marketing and distribution.

This activity is intended to create a pool of mentors who will be linked with young emerging authors who are writing in all official indigenous languages, for support and edification. We believe this act will bridge a gap between generations, ignite respect for talent and wisdom of elders within local communities, revive moral and morale, as well encouraging social cohesion, nation building and preservation of culture and heritage.

Other objectives of this activity are to encourage writing in African indigenous languages through harnessing fully the available talent and wisdom of retired professionals.

While mentees will be receiving value, we believe mentors will be edified as well by giving such value. Mentors and mentees will be included in the masterclasses, workshops, book fairs and book exhibitions that are planned this year and beyond, as part of the incubation theme of the Programme, to provide further support for sustainability.
